Hobbshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06785206482364767612noreply@blogger.comBlogger67125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6049942391121466857.post-65586971266361964382014-03-24T23:48:00.001-05:002014-03-24T23:48:32.220-05:00Say Something!I am working on a new novel, actually it's been in the works for a few years, but I finally feel it's almost ready. Anyway, this weekend I was working through one of the hardest scenes in the book emotionally, and yes I'll admit I was a bit misty-eyed, when I heard a song. This song embodies the essence of what one of the main characters is feeling at that moment and if I were to see it playing on the big screen, this is the song that would be playing in the background. So I thought I would share the song, and as the novel moves along, I may give you a few more glimpses. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/-2U0Ivkn2Ds?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I actually found another version that gives a more powerful inference to my story with its visuals, however, the artists are amazing in both and the song is not only heartbreaking but beautiful.<span style="font-family: Calibri;"> </span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<object width="320" height="266" class="BLOGGER-youtube-video" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0" data-thumbnail-src="https://ytimg.googleusercontent.com/vi/jtas4gZxE_w/0.jpg"><param name="movie" value="https://youtube.googleapis.com/v/jtas4gZxE_w&source=uds" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><embed width="320" height="266" src="https://youtube.googleapis.com/v/jtas4gZxE_w&source=uds" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></div>

So how does music influence your writing? Do you have playlists to help your vision come to life, do you need music playing while you write, or does it help you identify with your characters on a deeper level? I would love to know your thoughts on the subject.T.M. <div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
Anna is
accompanying a group of settlers traveling from Texas, across the Red River, to
get much needed supplies from Fort Arbuckle in Oklahoma.</div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
On their return
home, they are ambushed by a band of Chickasaw Indians, and the settlers are
all killed, with the exception of Anna, who is seen as less of a threat because
of her dark hair.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This is not the only
reason she is spared, however.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She
quickly finds favor with one of the young braves, Ohiteka, especially when she
explains that she can be of value to the tribe using the food and supplies the
settlers had gotten from the Fort as a bargaining tool.</div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
Although Ohiteka
is taken with the young woman, it is not until he makes his spirit journey that
he is convinced she has been sent to him by the Great One above.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
Anna, known as
Chenoa among the Chickasaw people, learns of Ohiteka's desire for her, however,
she and Ohiteka’s sister, Aponi, are captured by several young Choctaw
warriors; enemies of Ohiteka’s tribe.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
Ohiteka forms a
plan to rescue the woman he loves and his sister, but soon learns that one of
the men helping him has a purpose of his own.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Hurritt is the one who saves Chenoa, making her his property—<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">his slave</i>.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He secretly awaits the death of his wife, so
he can make Chenoa his woman.</div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
Ohiteka finds a
way to try and win back Chenoa by challenging Hurritt to fight him for
her.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The bloody fight ends with
Hurritt’s defeat and Ohiteka is permitted to take Chenoa as his wife.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
As you will see,
life is not always easy for Ohiteka and Chenoa, but the love you feel for them
is only magnified when they discover they are expecting their first child.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Their happiness, however, is shadowed with
the hunt, for Ohiteka must leave with the hunters to bring meat back to the
village for his people.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
The hunt brings
more changes to their lives, changes that make Chenoa's life complete when
Ohiteka saves her mother and two younger sisters, delivering them to the
village, sparing them the same fate that befell the settlers when the story
first unfolded.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Pardon the pun, but for lack of a more appropriate
title, how else can I begin to describe the feeling of being utterly immersed
within the world you have created.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Actually, for me as a writer, I know I am on the right track when my
characters follow me around throughout the day.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">If you find yourself wondering what your character
might be thinking at any given moment, or how they would handle or react to a
particular situation, or just can’t keep from writing the next line of your
novel in your head while driving to work, then you are truly <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">sleeping with the character</i>.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Actually, one of my favorite places to ponder the
next move of my new character is when I first lay down in bed at night.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Also, many times when I first wake up, I will
have the plot rolling through the fog in my mind and have found that if I jump
up and jot those ideas down, they often become concrete notions to further
develop my story.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>And if you find
yourself in the same situation, heed my advice, write it down <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">before</i> you brush your teeth, because it
has a tendency to fade or take on new meaning if you don’t capture those vivid
images before going about your daily routine.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">I also find that the writing is much easier when you
have this connection with your character.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>The old adage, ‘out of sight out of mind’ fits while creating your next
masterpiece.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If you are not thinking
about your book and actively calling upon the characters to speak to you, they
may very well remain silent. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">So take time everyday to visit that quiet place in
your mind where new worlds are created, lovers unite, and new friendships are
formed, in an effort to keep your writing alive and well.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The creative process needs to be nourished,
otherwise it will wither and die, making it more difficult than ever to finish
your story or start a new one.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Does it sound like I am speaking from
experience?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I will be the first to admit
there are times which are harder than others to stay connected and focused on
my work.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But when that spark ignites, I find
my way back to the keyboard once again.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">I can’t think of a more rewarding and satisfying
pastime, whether it’s writing a paranormal, contemporary, historical, or
regency romance.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>For me, a key component
for my interest is the romance.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>My
passion, however, lies with historical tales of Native American’s falling in
love with their captives, and the prim and proper women in an English backdrop
being tempted by the handsome men in their lives.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">This brings me to my latest novel, <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Forbidden Kin</i>, which was published in
December of 2012, by Books To Go Now.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>A
regency romance, set in none other than England during the 1800’s, is a sensual
tale of forbidden love, half-truths, and slight deception.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Faithston Billows, orphaned and alone, is taken in
by her uncle, Marston Wilmouth.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Learning
of his death upon her arrival at Thrushright, she fears she has no where left
to call home.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But she soon learns this <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">will</i> be her home and finds more there
than she bargained for. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">A surreptitious bequeathal in Marston’s will could
change her future, but her strength is tested by trials of the heart, a love
she cannot have, a man she does not love, and the woman who is devoted to her
every need. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

I am excited to announce that <strong>Books To Go Now</strong> has published my latest novel, <strong><em>Forbidden Kin,</em></strong> which is available at <strong>Amazon.com</strong>.<strong> </strong>I am very proud of this story, because I have finally brought to life a lovely historical romance. The regency period was a romantic time when women's affections were sought after with a fervor. It was a time when <em>to love and be loved</em> was of the utmost importance, if one was so lucky.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Forbidden-Kin-ebook/dp/B00ASNZ5UY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357092624&sr=8-1&keywords=forbidden+kin+t.m.+hobbs" target="_blank"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2P0q24-nX9-1L_SviIHUwBg7GWy7YtrdGgq7npvyQCf0Dd9IWYxR_knh1bnCGHBTNZ7_rjaT-17MafjLUbcj1jWhF6k5CFEN3ulm88XQjhfZVTPAQ_W6xBG6o7Cp_1vr6QKcvm9vqD3g/s1600/final%2527cover%2527fk.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2P0q24-nX9-1L_SviIHUwBg7GWy7YtrdGgq7npvyQCf0Dd9IWYxR_knh1bnCGHBTNZ7_rjaT-17MafjLUbcj1jWhF6k5CFEN3ulm88XQjhfZVTPAQ_W6xBG6o7Cp_1vr6QKcvm9vqD3g/s200/final%2527cover%2527fk.jpg" width="133" /></a></a></div>
<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Faithston Billows finds she is alone after the death of her father. Through the kind mercies of her uncle, Marston Wilmouth, Miss Billows is given a home in Profdin, at his estate known as Thrushright, however, upon her arrival; she learns that her uncle died two weeks earlier, but her fears of not having a home are laid to rest, and she is welcomed at Thrushright.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Faithston is faced with many trials of the heart, however, as she finds herself at the center of the desires of others including Alden Winthrop, the young, and very handsome, head of her uncle's estate, Marian, the lady's maid, given the task of seeing to her every need, and James Croston, the older, distinguished neighbor and longtime friend of Mr. Wilmouth.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Although Faithston has chosen to love only one, she feels that this love is forbidden to her because of the nearness of kin. Therefore, she seeks to satisfy her heart, settling for someone whom she hopes she can learn to love in time.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Forbidden Kin is a sensual tale of forbidden love, half-truths, and slight deception which unfolds as Alden uncovers the bequeathal in Marston's last will and testament. The conditions, however, must be adhered to implicitly.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Alden encourages Faithston to follow through with the plan he has conjured up for her future, even if she finds the deception distasteful.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Follow Miss Billows through these obstacles and triumphs which will forever change her life.

Well another year has come and gone. It has been months since my last post, and yes I feel bad about that, but I will do better in the coming year. For me, 2012 was very productive, although I think I could have done a bit more. Therefore, my New Year's Resolution will be to post updates here more frequently, clean out a few stories that need to be polished and send them out for submission, and get myself back in the habit of writing every week. Wish me luck!! </div>

<strong><em>Summary:</em></strong></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
She called him Tender Spirit, because he was kind to her, for she knew not
his true name. In fact, Beth named them all, the entire band of young Indian men
who took her from her home. <br />
<br />
As she watched them, she found their
characters and mannerisms interesting, and it occupied her mind giving each of
them names. This kept her from dwelling on the worst and helped her keep her
mind off the pain--the pain of the wound she received when the bullet from one
of their guns tore through the tender flesh of her thigh.<br />
<br />
Beth wondered
what had happened to her brother, Tom, back at their cabin, their home where
they had taken care of each other since the death of their parents over a year
ago. Why had he not tried to stop them was her question, as she struggled to
keep her fear, and the agony she was in hidden away.<br />
<br />
Where she was being
taken and why, would soon be revealed. The man she called Tender Spirit, whom
she came to know by his true name, Kiyiya, had taken her hoping she could bring
happiness to his mother, Helaku. With Kiyiya's sister having been lost to death,
he wanted Beth to help lessen that loss, or at least this is what Beth was led
to believe.</div>T.M. Hobbshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06785206482364767612noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6049942391121466857.post-20105816369247272902012-04-28T15:19:00.000-05:002012-04-28T15:19:44.735-05:00Words of Encouragement<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">I have never thought about what being able to write truly
meant until a few days ago.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I think I
understand now, why I lack confidence in my writing, not only because that is
an unfortunate part of my character, but also because it is the act of giving a
part of yourself, something personal, to outsiders.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">Don't get me wrong.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I
love writing, meeting new characters and developing them, making a world so believable
that you literally feel as though you are there when you go back and read the
story, but to do that, you have to open your mind, thoughts, and ideas up to others.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">This is where it gets tricky.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I suppose the need to seek approval and
praise, a natural human trait, keeps us moving forward, but what if you don't
succeed?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Should you give up what you
enjoy simply because you cannot please everyone?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The answer is straightforward.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>No.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If
everyone who writes gave up on writing because they are not Bronte, Guterson,
Leroux, Austen, Dickens, or even Poe, then we would only have those authors to
read, time and time again.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>And after a
while, we would be longing for something new—something fresh.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri;">So I say this to you my friend, do not give up if you meet
slight resistance or disfavor, because waiting out there somewhere, is that <em>one</em> person
who needs to read the message you need to share.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> That part of you that is hidden away, out of reach unless you offer it to the world. </span>Use the talent you have been given, as I am
doing, to write not only for yourself, but for that<em> one</em> person as well.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Who knows, maybe someday they will have the
pleasure of finally hearing your voice.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>T.M. <strong>Chris:</strong> My <strong><em>Knights in Time</em></strong> books are hero based stories. I loved my character, Basil, when I was writing him but my character, Guy, did continue to whisper in my ear, and he did make me smile all through Heroes. The third book in the series, which I am currently outlining is also hero based.</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />

I have a book from a different series coming out in winter, which is set in Turkey, another place I love and spent time.<br />

I have been suffering from ulnar nerve entrapment, an impinged tendon, and torn rotator cuff in my left arm for quite some time. By the time I made it home from work, having typed most of the day, my arm was not in any shape to continue typing for fun on my blog. My writing has also had to take a backseat because of the inability to type for long periods of time. <br />
<br />
The good news in this post is that the problem hopefully has been resolved. I had surgery on my left elbow and shoulder last week in an attempt to correct these painful problems. It is difficult right now to type with my arm being in the sling, but with the aid of Dragon, the voice recognition software, I am getting back into the swing of things.<br />
<br />
I hope to post the last edition of my Summer Songs Interview Series this weekend as well as an update on my new writing projects. Please check back over the next few days and in weeks to come for updates and more information that what's going on with me. T.M. We discussed not only my novel, Wings of Fate, but we also touched on my new novel, To Cry For Dakota, that is slated for release in late December.<br />
<br />
Mr. Chapman was great, and I had a wonderful time chatting with him. He also had a couple of tips for marketing your books. I hope you will check it out.<br />

'nuff said), Daniel Silva (love his Gabriel Allon series), John Sandford (great characters, off the cuff humor, gripping suspense), Janet Evanovich (her books make me LOL), Ken Follett (grew up reading his spy novels), Sue Grafton (Kinsey Millhone- one of the best strong female protagonists I've ever read) – oops. And, I agree with you about inner strength living within each of us- I'm often in awe of people and how they cope, especially in dire circumstances. I'm also fascinated by how one decision can affect a life so profoundly, having repercussions far beyond what the person ever envisioned. With Kate, I knew I wanted a woman who was at heart a good person, but who made one mistake (okay, maybe a couple of them) that changed the course of her life forever. </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><div style="border: currentColor;"><span style="color: #cccccc;"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">DV: </b>Books To Go Now was great to work with and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them, but I've always been a Do-It-Yourself kind of gal. After I realized how much fun self-publishing was, I had to go solo. One thing a person should realize before they take the plunge, though, is you will need to treat self-publishing like a small business, because that's exactly what it is. You're responsible for your cover art, formatting, uploading, promotion, editing, the works. There are folks out there who can help you with any of the above, but most of the responsibility is going to rest squarely on your shoulders. That's the aspect that excites me the most, but, like I said, my brain is a tad twisted. <span style="font-family: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-hansi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;"><span style="mso-char-type: symbol; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;">J</span></span></span></div></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />

<strong>Tonia (T.M.):</strong> Do you see yourself working on new projects that are not Kate Jones related in the near future?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If so, can you elaborate on or give us a glimpse of those projects so we know to keep our eyes open for them?</span></div></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="color: #cccccc;"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">DV: <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></b>Yes- thanks for asking! In addition to the Kate Jones series, I'm working on a stand alone book tentatively titled, "Pieces of April." It's a complete departure from Kate, and involves another strong female character who may or may not have had a history as a paid assassin. The rest of the plot is fairly twisted, so I'll leave it at that. My plans are to have it available by the end of this year. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><div style="border: currentColor;"><span style="color: #cccccc;"><br />
<strong>Tonia (T.M.):</strong> Thank you so much for agreeing to participate in this little interview and for being a guest at my blog.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Do you have anything you would like to say to the readers of this interview, other writers or those on the verge of diving off the writing cliff, so to speak, in the way of <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>encouragement?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span> <br style="mso-special-character: line-break;" /><br style="mso-special-character: line-break;" /><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"></b></span></div></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><div style="border: currentColor;"><span style="color: #cccccc;"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">DV:</b> <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Thanks, Tonia for such a fun interview! Great questions. Make sure you let us all know when your next book is available- I'm so looking forward to reading it!</span></div></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><div style="border: currentColor;"><span style="color: #cccccc;">If I were to say one thing to writers considering self-publishing, it would be DO IT! If you're a newbie and you have the urge to write, learn the basics, take some classes, shore up your weaknesses (we all have them <span style="font-family: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-hansi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;"><span style="mso-char-type: symbol; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;">J</span></span>), join a critique group- then, write! Finish your first draft, go over it a couple of times, then send it to some trusted beta readers for feedback. Listen to everything they say that comes up more than once, as well as what resonates with you, and figure out how to change it. Put the manuscript down for a week or a month, then come back to it and re-read. Out loud. Revise, revise, revise. Check your facts. Send it to readers again. Incorporate their suggestions if they make sense, and revise again. Then, when you think it's as perfect as you can make it, find a good freelance editor and have them take a look. Once that's done, create a great looking book cover, format the book (the Smashwords Style Guide is a good place to start) and publish! There's a boatload of free information out there about all aspects of self-pubbing. Use it!</span></div></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><div style="border: currentColor;"><span style="color: #cccccc;">One more caveat: Enjoy the process.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Most people won't stick with something for long if it isn't fun, and this is a long-haul kind of thing. Don't expect instant success, and don't quit your day job, yet. It's an exciting time to be a writer. Grab the reins and hold on tight!</span></div></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="border: currentColor; margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />

Her stories are very realistic, and I enjoy them very much. I hope you will check all of them out. I know I am looking forward to her her next projects.</span><br />

(Don't call me Shirley) Shadow on the Wall is Book One in the SandStorm Chronicles.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It's a dark fiction about the lives of people who live under the oppressive rule of the Islamic religious police.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The main character, Recai Osman, is fun to write and live with.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He's conflicted and dark, but also very open to the world around him.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He wants to believe in the good in people but its hard when every time he turns around there's just more violence and oppression.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So what does a Moderate Muslim with a degree in Philosophy do?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Well he becomes a superhero of course!</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="color: #cccccc;"><br />
</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="color: #cccccc;"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Tonia (T.M.):</b><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Is that a "superhero" with super powers or a "superhero" who uses his wits to help those in need around him?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>And what made you delve into the world of Islam?</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="color: #cccccc;"><br />
</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="color: #cccccc;"><b>Pav:</b> <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>For the superhero, it's a little of both. He's not like kryptonite superhero but there are some mystical/divine interventions which make him more than just a man. I think Recai has some of the darkness that makes us love the anti-hero and some of the tragedy that makes us root for his side.<br />
<br />
As for Islam, there are a lot of reasons, but mainly it's a story that needs to be told. The culture of Islamophobia we live in now and the misunderstanding the west has about an entire people is a travesty. Any extremist is dangerous but for the most part Muslims are kind, faithful, loving people. Religious intolerance and prejudice against a whole people based on the actions of a few is no better in this circumstance than it was during slavery or the holocaust and I felt like I had a story to tell that was evocative and rooted in truth which can illuminate the sameness between us instead of the differences.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="color: #cccccc;"><br />
</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="color: #cccccc;"><strong>Tonia (T.M.):</strong> I like the fact that you have gone "out of the box," so to speak, to create a character from a different culture that is entertaining and fighting for a cause he believes in.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>How many books will be in the series?</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="color: #cccccc;"><br />
